P1 Idea: Cave

What’s the World

This is an exploration of what a “newCave” might look like. We’ve thought of caves as a site of inhibition, and ancient remains. I’m interested in explroing what a cave in the present would look like.

With ancient caves we look at its walls and artifacts to figure out what happened then, if we were to construct a cave right now what would that entail. What would be the things on the walls for me.

How’s it different from the one we live in
I’m definitely thinking of this space dream like. It is different in that the interface and way it exists would not try to be “realistic” at all. The main purpose of this space would be using abstraction as a means of reflection

What do you do in this world

As I was just mentioning, ideally, the world would allow for the user to wander and introspect. I’m not sure how the layers will add up, but I would like for the user to be able to explore the space, and ideally find a bite to my life in it.

inspiration:

I’m really inspired by the Street Hawker shoes. I love how it explored the various layers and textures of food which allowed for an exploration of various locales and their food in China.

this link shows more about the shoe

I’m also equally inspired by cave writtings especially in ancient indian caves.

P1 Idea: A World of Sorrow

  1. What’s the world?

We finally did it. We finally managed to destroy the world that had cherished us all this time. All that left is a ruin of our world.

  1. How’s it different from the one we live in?

This world is another version of our world. This world had been totally annihilated and reached the point of no return. Not a single living creature is in sight. All that remains is remains of fallen buildings.

  1. What do you do in this world?

You are the only person left in this world. You look around and see the destruction that had happened. And you don’t know what to do but to give in to sorrow.

World Idea

My world is inspired by the animation of the movie Into the Spiderverse. It’s an urban landscape but in a comic-ish style, with some colours sometimes shifting in and out of focus. The effects will be like those in the movie, but I think I would like the environment to look less realistic. The Netflix movie The Liberator is a good example of how I would like the environment of my world to look (almost like it’s handpainted), though with the Into the Spiderverse effects.

I also want to effects such as sound effects and halftone to emphasise the comic feel of the environment. There’s a sort of breaking-the-fourth-wall feel to comics with their use of onomatopoeia and I want to use that as well, along with some text panels for the main character (the user) I want it to feel as though you’re the main character of a comic book.

It is different from our world in the way it looks, and of course the comic sound effects, etc (as seen in the pictures) but mainly because of the story of the main character. People go about their daily lives in the city but I’m thinking of having a quest-based story line for users such as something you’d see in a superhero comic.

I want the characters to look more like the Liberator as well.

P1: World Idea

Although I am still not entirely sure about my idea for the first project, I was inspired by different media that helped me narrow down my choices to a world that includes elements of adventure, apocalypse and an alternate planet.

The main pieces of media that inspired me in terms of concept and aesthetic, are The 100 (season 6), and the animation movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Both the series and the movie follow fictional and adventurous plotlines, that take place either on a different planet or lost societies.

In The 100 (season 6), the characters wake up after 125 years of cryosleep in a post-apocalyptic world, and land on the alternate planet Alpha. Although the new planet is habitable, there is a mysterious anomaly that happens at certain points during the day; which drives people mad and affects the environment. I really loved all the fictional and aesthetic elements in this series, and wanted to create a similar world. The world I want to build will also be set on a completely different planet, with a diverse terrain. I want the color palette to also be similar; with warm tones, fog, as well as forest greens and browns.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire, is one of my favorite movies from my childhood and has a completely different color palette than The 100.

Although this movie has a completely different narrative and aesthetic, I was inspired by the character and elements design. It would be easier to build something more simple in terms of characters and environment more similar to this movie, rather than the series above. I also wanted to the appearance, in characters to be similar to the ones in Atlantis!

Despite not being a 100% set on the idea for project 1, I’m leaning towards making it a post-apocalyptic world.

P1 Idea:

What is the world?
My preliminary idea (which is subject to change) is to create a world/environment of an abandoned water park. Conceptually, it would allude to the global water crisis and envision a post-apocalyptic future where such an artifact of short-sighted human entertainment becomes a habitat for new life forms of the future (but I don’t know what those could be).

How is it different from the one we live in?
It is deserted, quiet and human-less. The massive structures of the waterpark are stripped of their original purpose and become strange and absurd.

What do you do in this world?
*I am struggling to answer this question because I am not committed to this idea at all, because it mostly appeals to me visually rather than conceptually. I am not sure what kind of narrative I could create there to fill it with content and opportunities to actually do something on this world.

I will definitely keep looking for other ideas and will need to let my imagination go more crazy! 🙂

P1 idea: Magical Forest

  • What’s the world?

The world I’m interested in creating is one where mystical creatures, humans and animals alike live together in harmony within a magical realm.

  • How’s it different from the one we live in?

It is a world where man and nature co-exist and become one without one overtaking the other. This world has a different kind of forest where energy manifests itself within nature causing various plants and trees to glow. The people of this world grew to live amongst nature and making use of that source of energy while preserving it.

  • What do you do in this world?

In this world, humans work as caretakers of the forests. They make use of nature’s energy to advance their societies while making sure to maintain peace with their environment as well as the mythical creatures and animals that live alongside them. The humans that live here live somewhat serene lives focusing on the little things such as traditional skills and crafts.

I’m not quiet sure of the interactions one would do with the google cardboard.

P1 Idea: Grimdark

The idea for my first project will be based on a subgenre of dystopian future called Grimdark. This subgenre is know for dark, amoral and violent themes that takes a very unique approach to future worlds and societies.

The World:

It exists in the far future where humans have colonized much of the galaxy. however the human race is facing many extreme dangers that threaten it from within and from the outside. There is no peace among the stars as for millennia the human race is at war with other worldly foes and traitorous humans.

Difference between our world

The promise of technological growth is gone. it has been centuries since anything new has been invented. besides moving forward human kind has resorted to religious fanaticism where they worship there leaders and are willing to destroy anything that undermines their plans. everything has a gothic and eerie feel to it. The atmosphere is dark and hopeless. There are large hive cities where humans spend all their lives manufacturing weapons, food and other things to help with the never ending war. Many planets have become death worlds where never-ending amounts of conflicts happens and no value of life is given

What happens in this world

You are one amongst untold billions that are willing to sacrifice themselves to see the plans of your leaders is uphold . you are sent as a disposable soldier amongst millions to the frontlines in hopes of keeping the enemy at bay. you are garrisoned in a large gothic structure armed with various futuristic tech/ biomechanical tech. looking outside the garrison near a fortification you see the terrifying scale of war and the impending doom as the enemy forces draw closer.
