P1 idea: Magical Forest

  • What’s the world?

The world I’m interested in creating is one where mystical creatures, humans and animals alike live together in harmony within a magical realm.

  • How’s it different from the one we live in?

It is a world where man and nature co-exist and become one without one overtaking the other. This world has a different kind of forest where energy manifests itself within nature causing various plants and trees to glow. The people of this world grew to live amongst nature and making use of that source of energy while preserving it.

  • What do you do in this world?

In this world, humans work as caretakers of the forests. They make use of nature’s energy to advance their societies while making sure to maintain peace with their environment as well as the mythical creatures and animals that live alongside them. The humans that live here live somewhat serene lives focusing on the little things such as traditional skills and crafts.

I’m not quiet sure of the interactions one would do with the google cardboard.

Lab 2: Google Cardboard

I followed the tutorial and got the project to work on Unity itself, however building it and sending it from PC to Mac proved to be more difficult than I thought, so I’m still working to get the project to export properly.

UPDATE: I got it to work by remaking the entire thing on mac + building it at that same laptop.

One of the properties that VR represents out of Murray’s four principle properties of digital environments is spatial. Virtual Reality transports one into another world and the most important aspect that makes that world unique is the space. It is space that one creates the environment and the soul of a world. VR relies on the use of space to make those forms of media unique. For example, when you’re consuming any other form of media such as movies or tv shows the space you see is behind a 2D wall whereas with VR the user is experiencing it through first-person view.

The manipulation of space is used to aid in storytelling through VR. For example, if a user plays through a horror game using virtual reality, the game developers behind that game would use space to their advantage through many ways such as the manipulation of the vastness or the tightness of the world in correspondence to the feeling that the creator wants to portray.
